Statement
I make art to solve visual problems. During this process doors open with new questions that give way to possibilities. I also make art to extract from the minds eye, making the image or concept a reality, hopefully adding to the cultural mileau. While sculpture and photography have both been long term interests I have found a deep disatisfaction with each discipline. To me, sculpture falls short because of the lack of imagery and photography because it lacks the third dimension. To begin to resolve the problem of the exclusivity of images and objects I am combining the two.
Bio
Graduate school brought me to Chicago in 1992. Born in New Rochelle, New York, in 1965, I have lived in the suburbs, the country and the city of New York. I have also lived in Caracas, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Madrid, Vermont, Banff and Interlochen, Michigan.
Proctor Academy, the boarding school I attended, in New Hampshire, believes in experiential learning. Excelling at field hockey and lacrosse, involvement in pottery, mountain classroom and travel abroad programs had a tremenduous impact on my life. As did working for three sculptors and two museums in NYC after college. These expeiences proved invaluable, allowing me to see the realities of being an artist. I continue to learn by doing, sailboat racing, animal assisted therapy for patients at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and making art.
College and graduate school brought forth photography and sculpture forever capturing my interest. Being a self-employed dog walker allows me the opportunity race, volunteer and combine the disciplines of photograpy and sculpture in to photobjects.
